DFD 2025

Gallery of Fluid Motion

The Gallery of Fluid Motion showcases posters and videos submitted by attendees, highlighting the captivating science and often breathtaking beauty of fluid motion.

The annual Gallery of Fluid Motion will be held during the APS DFD Meeting in Houston, Texas.

We encourage both computational and experimental entries. Poster and video entries must not duplicate one another. Outstanding poster and video submissions are judged by a panel of referees for their combination of striking visual qualities and scientific interest.

The top-ranked video and poster entries will be designated as Milton Van Dyke or Gallery of Fluid Motion Winners and subsequently get an invitation to publish their work in the September 2026 issue of the Physical Review Fluids. All winners will receive a certificate from APS and an Album of Fluid Motion. In addition, Milton Van Dyke awardees are granted prizes at the DFD meeting as part of their recognition.

Traveling Gallery of Fluid Motion: The Coexistence of Order and Chaos

The Traveling Gallery of Fluid Motion presents its third exhibition, Fluid Motion: The Coexistence of Order and Chaos, on view Oct. 9, 2025, through Jan. 25, 2026, at the Houston Museum of Natural Science and Nicole Longnecker Gallery.

By dividing the exhibition between two locations, the curators highlight the central question: How do ideas and experiences migrate between spaces? Works ranging from sculpture to photography reveal how order and chaos are not opposites, but interdependent.

Don’t miss out on this extraordinary experience. See you in Houston!
